“I Have a Voice | Tengo una Voz” is a declaration, not a request. This sculpture of a young Latina girl affirms that even before she is old enough to vote, her voice carries power, rooted in culture, lived experience, and a fearless belief in her right to speak. The bullhorn at her hip represents readiness: when she chooses to speak, her message will be amplified. Every element on her, beaded bracelets in English and Spanish made by local youth, a sin miedo (‘fearless’) necklace crafted by a Salvadorian, LA-based female artisan, and the 21 Latin American flags stitched onto her jeans, reflects a layered identity shaped by both legacy and present-day realities. Her hand-painted body honors the vibrant textile traditions of Latin America, while her upcycled, custom-designed clothing makes space for young people to see themselves in her image. She stands at the intersection of heritage and urgency, in the face of still-present inequities, showing that a young advocate carries generations behind her and a future ahead, and that a young person can form a voice that is informed, thoughtful, and entirely their own. This work is not just about finding your voice or being heard. It’s about being believed, supported, impossible to replace, and never silenced.

Fearless Generations is a hand-painted community mural on canvas created for the Forever Fearless exhibition in Washington, DC in 2025. The work honors the courage and resilience of women and girls who show up for themselves, for one another, and for the generations walking beside and after them.

Set against the backdrop of the U.S. Capitol, the mural depicts three generations: a grandmother, mother, and daughter. Each figure represents a different relationship to movement, memory, and progress. At the center, the mother bridges the generation that came before her and the one just beginning to find its voice. Her position reflects the lived experience of many first- and second-generation women, grounded in the history and sacrifices of their elders while continuing to push forward and create new possibilities.

The grandmother, seated in a wheelchair, gently holds her daughter’s arm, not out of dependence, but in recognition and support of the woman she has become. The granddaughter, with a bicycle at her side, represents forward motion and a future carried by both memory and momentum.

Through bold color, intergenerational imagery, and the shared act of community painting, Fearless Generations reflects on advocacy, family, and the everyday acts of courage that help move us all forward.

Esta escultura de una niña latina afirma que, incluso antes de tener edad para votar, su voz ya tiene poder, un poder arraigado en la cultura, la experiencia vivida y una creencia valiente en su derecho a expresarse. El megáfono en su cadera representa preparación: cuando decida hablar, su mensaje será amplificado. Cada elemento en ella, las pulseras con cuentas en inglés y español hechas por jóvenes locales, un collar que dice sin miedo, creado por una artesana salvadoreña radicada en Los Ángeles, y las 21 banderas latinoamericanas cosidas en sus jeans, refleja una identidad compleja, formada tanto por el legado como por las realidades actuales. Su cuerpo pintado a mano honra las vibrantes tradiciones textiles de América Latina, mientras que su ropa reciclada y diseñada a medida permite que los jóvenes se vean reflejados en su imagen. Ella se encuentra en la intersección entre la herencia y la urgencia, frente a desigualdades que aún persisten, mostrando que una joven defensora carga generaciones detrás de sí y un futuro por delante, y que una persona joven puede formar una voz informada, reflexiva y completamente propia. Esta obra no trata solo de encontrar la voz o de ser escuchada. Se trata de ser creída, apoyada, irremplazable y nunca silenciada.
